The speculation regarding Aaron Rodgers' future remains hot in league circles. As the tampering period started, insider Trey Wingo claimed that the veteran to the New York Jets is a done deal.

But speculation was quickly shut down by other insiders such as Ian Rapoport from NFL Network and Adam Schefter from ESPN. Both said that while the Jets were optimistic about a deal, nothing has been confirmed yet.

However, Wingo has been a credible source for Aaron Rodgers' saga, which is why one can't easily distrust his sources.

Trey Wingo worked for ESPN for two decades

Now 59, the journalist had his breakthrough in sports media in 1997, when he joined ESPN to work as the play-by-play announcer for the Arena Football League.

Wingo has hosted several ESPN programs, including NFL Primetime, NFL Live, and Who's No.1?. In 2017, he replaced Mike Greenberg in the legendary Mike & Mike, which became Golic and Wingo.

He left ESPN on September 4, 2020, almost two and a half decades after joining the channel.

Trey Wingo broke the news about Aaron Rodgers talking to the Jets

Now working at the Pro Football Network, the former ESPN host was responsible for breaking the news that the quarterback was talking to the New York Jets regarding a possible deal between the two sides.

Wingo's tweet stated that, while nothing was imminent between the two sides, the quarterback was open to the idea of moving to the Big Apple:

One of Rodgers' options closed on Monday as the Las Vegas Raiders signed free agent quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to a deal worth $72.75M over three years with $34 million guaranteed. There will be no reunion between the quarterback and Davante Adams, his best friend from the latter's Packers days.

Everybody is still awaiting official confirmation as to where Rodgers is going, but it looks less and less likely that he's going to return to Green Bay. A new chapter of his career in New York will make for one of the most interesting storylines of the 2023 season.
