Will Ricky Pearsall play today vs Chiefs? Latest on 49ers WR's status for Week 7 clash

After missing the first six games of the season, Ricky Pearsall is set to make his season debut with the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. The rookie wide receiver will bring more firepower to an offense that struggled with several injuries in the past couple of weeks.

According to Matt Barrows of The Athletic, the 49ers will activate the first-rounder for Sunday's game, a decision that was set even if Jauan Jennings was healthy.

Ricky Pearsall injury update: What happened to 49ers rookie WR?

Ricky Pearsall starred in a chilling moment at the start of September when he was shot through his chest in a robbery incident. The Florida product was surprised by the robber trying to steal his Rolex in San Francisco's Union Square. The player was headed to a signing event, but his plans had to change as he fought with the attacker for the gun, resulting in both men getting shot and taken to the hospital.

He was in stable condition hours after the incident, but the recovery process delayed his debut. Pearsall had been dealing with health issues before that moment, only participating in six of 19 training camp practices. He missed every 49ers preseason game.

What type of player is Ricky Pearsall?

Ricky Pearsall's game evolved in college, as he started as a rotational piece for the Arizona State Sun Devils before transferring to the Florida Gators. In his first season, in 2022, he became a deep threat for the Gators. In 2023, his game exploded, and he became a well-rounded receiver who could do almost everything on the pitch.

Pearsall combined 109 touches for 1,800 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Pearsall is a fast player who can surprise defenses with his acceleration. He's a terrific route runner who can create space with his adjustments on the run. His catches are eye-popping, and his hands are pretty secure, especially for a rookie.

The 49ers have players who can complement Pearsall's game pretty well, and the rookie is expected to make some noise with this squad, especially now that they aren't at full strength.

The Chiefs aren't an easy opponent, and San Francisco will be keen to beat them in the Super Bowl LVIII rematch.
