There's a clear improvement for Xavier Legette after the Carolina Panthers made a quarterback change in Week 3. The offense wasn't functional at all and it was impossible for anything to be good, but Legette and the entire unit are now better. So is he an option for your fantasy football team going forward?

Should you add Panthers WR Xavier Legette in Week 5 Waiver Wire?

It's still a bit too soon to trust him. He has surely earned a role in this offense, as his speed and raw quality make him a good player to develop. And it's also true that he has a good chance to become an important player. But for fantasy purposes, it's still not good enough.

Since Dalton took over, he has had 108 receiving yards and a touchdown, which aren't eye-popping numbers even if you want to place him at a FLEX spot. He could be a guy to stash deep on your bench if you trust him to develop even further, but the Panthers just aren't good enough that you need to trust this judgment.

Xavier Legette's fantasy outlook for 2024 NFL season

He probably will be rostered in over 50% of the leagues all around the world but he's not going to be a regular starter in any team. As he gets to grips with the professional level, the big plays will still be few and far between, and you need consistency at your wide receiver position.

If you have an extra spot on your bench, then maybe add him to see if he explodes midway through the year is valid, but he's not going to be an impact player.

Is Xavier Legette a good waiver wire pickup in fantasy football?

Not this season, as the Carolina Panthers are a complete mess and Andy Dalton, while a clear upgrade to Bryce Young, is still just a backup quarterback at this point of his career.

The rookie wide receiver is behind Diontae Johnson in targets and Adam Thielen will also take a bit of his shares when he comes back from injury. Just avoid the young kid.
