Jamie How: A Brief Biography

Jamie How Biography


Jamie How is a former New Zealand cricketer, born on 19 May 1981 in New Plymouth, Taranaki. He was a right-handed opening batsman and a right-arm medium/off-break bowler. Jamie was a part of the New Zealand squad in the 2000 ICC U19 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.


Background


Jamie played first-class cricket for the Central Districts since 2000. He scored a 704, 682 and 592 runs in 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons respectively. Jamie had three 150+ scores just before making his international debut.


Debut


Jamie earned his international debut in an ODI against Sri Lanka on 31 December 2005. He opened the batting with Vincent and scored 58 as the Kiwis won by seven wickets. He kept his place intact in the team for quite some time.


Three months after his ODI debut, he made his Test debut on 9 March 2006 against West Indies where he scored 11 and 37 in first and second innings respectively. New Zealand won the match by 27 runs. He could not impress the selectors in this format and never cemented his place in the side.


He made his T20 international debut on 23 November 2007 against South Africa. Coming in at number three, he scored 14 runs in 11 balls. South Africa chased down the target on the second-last ball of their 20 overs.


Low Points


How failed to score a half-century in his last 12 completed ODI innings. He was dropped from the side and could never make a comeback.


In Tests, he did not register a single century to his name and was dropped after eight consecutive scores of less than 50.


Stats


The 36-year-old managed to score 772 runs in 19 Test matches including 4 half-centuries. He averaged 22.70 and his highest score was 92 against England in 2008.


In ODIs, he has 1046 runs to his name in 41 matches. He scored one century and 7 half-centuries.


Retirement


Jamie How announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in December 2014. His last international match was in the 2011 World Cup against Pakistan in Sri Lanka.
