Pokemon GO's Max Out season is nearing its finale, with the final day being on December 1, 2024. While many players were a bit uncertain about what could be the next big thing in the mobile game, Niantic has released a teaser trailer for what is to come in the upcoming "Dual Destiny" season.

However, not a lot of information could be gathered from this trailer, and Niantic has yet to make an official statement on what is to come as of writing. Here are five things this new season could revolve around based on the hints shown in the new video from Niantic.

5 speculations about Pokemon GO's upcoming Dual Destiny season

1) Hoopa's return

One of the biggest details in this trailer was the frequent use of rings owned by the Mythical Pokemon, Hoopa. Throughout the trailer, viewers are shown various cities and landscapes, with each being transitioned through one of Hoopa's rings. It is interesting to see this from Niantic considering how both forms of Hoopa have been present in Pokemon GO for some time now.

This trailer could be hinting at Shiny Hoopa debuting during this upcoming event. With the rise of Adventure Effects on certain Legendary Pokemon, it could be possible that Hoopa will receive some kind of rework that grants it something similar. Whatever the plan, many collectors will be happy to see Hoopa in Pokemon GO once again.

2) Gym rework

Another detail highlighted in the recent Pokemon GO trailer is that every shot featured three gyms that were being controlled by different player teams. This could have a couple of implications. So far, the only incentive players have to interact with gyms is the Pokecoins they can receive from leaving their creatures there.

The gym system could be receiving a complete overhaul in the upcoming Dual Destiny season, potentially making the experience more faithful to the main series. This could mean gyms become guarded by players with teams of three Pokemon, similar to Team GO Rocket members.

3) Team changes

Given the highlighting of the three teams in the short trailer and the name of the season being Dual Destiny, it could be possible that Niantic intends to change the game's iconic team system. One of the details that made it so popular during 2016, teams have become much less important as the player count falls and less team-related content releases.

Dual Destiny could revolve around two new teams players can join, with each team having its own set of research tasks, collection challenges, and potentially even wild spawns. This could even make its way to Pokemon GO's Battle League, with an exclusive cup that puts players of each team against each other.

4) More worldwide content

The trailer showcases many shots at different locations, each with often drastically distinct environments. This could mean that the season will tackle one of the biggest issues with Pokemon GO — the game's lack of content outside of populated urban cities.

Many players in rural settings often voice their displeasure at being left out of yet events when they occur. If more PokeStops and gym locations come to rural areas, there will be a much bigger incentive to play the game in those settings, hopefully boosting player count as a result.

5) Unova-themed

Pokemon fusions have become a much bigger part of Pokemon GO following the debut of Necrozma in the mobile game. However, Necrozma is not the only Legendary Pokemon capable of fusing with others. Kyurem and its Black and White forms have been available in the game for a while, but they were not obtained through fusion.

"Dual Destiny" could refer to Reshiram and Zekrom, which could also be why the words on the season icon are black and white. Toward the end of the season, Kyurem could be introduced at the end with a more properly implemented fusion mechanic, complete with its own Adventure Effects.
