Appearance of Oddish

Oddish is a bulb-like plant-shaped Pokemon. Its body is round and its eyes are a beady red. Oddish has five leaves sprouting from its head. The leaves can be used for vertical movement as well as catching things. They are the closest thing Oddish has to arms or hands. Oddish lives in grasslands. Oddish has two bulky feet beneath its small, round body. Oddish’s plant-like appearance helps ward off predators and makes it very good at hiding.

Behavior of Oddish

Oddish is a nocturnal Pokemon. Oddish has a very sensitive body that it buries in the ground during the day. If it has its leaves pulled while it is buried, it will react with a loud shriek, hopefully deterring whoever was trying to uproot it. This action is designed to fool predators into leaving Oddish alone. Oddish will start to rise out of the ground when it senses the moonlight on its leaves. Oddish can wander very far away during the night to spread its seeds and find a new rich location to plant itself the next day. The more fertile the area, the glossier Oddish’s leaves will grow. Its feet are said to be like roots when planted, making the uprooting much more difficult. Oddish will likely not be uprooted by anyone or anything until it feels the moonlight and uproots itself.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Oddish is strong against Electric, Water, Fighting, Fairy, and Grass types. Grass-type Pokemon do a quarter the damage to Oddish, the rest do half the damage. Oddish is also a strong attacking Ground and Rock-type Pokemon. Oddish is weak against Flying, Fire, Ice, and Psychic types. These will all do twice as much damage to Oddish.

Shiny Oddish

Shiny Oddish has a different color scheme than the standard Oddish. Shiny Oddish’s main color is a dark, purplish-blue, with green leaves atop its head. Shiny Oddish’s leaves are green but they are more of a lime green than the original Oddish. Shiny Oddish’s body is also green, whereas the original counterpart is a dark, purplish-blue hue. Oddish has the same shape, feet, and leaves as Shiny Oddish.

How to catch Oddish in Pokemon Go?

Oddish can be found in grassy locations, like hiking trails. Oddish spawns at an increased rate in farmlands, forests, gardens, grassy fields, marshes, lakes and industrial areas. Oddish can be hatched from a 2km egg, so these are not a big challenge to find. Oddish can be evolved to Gloom with 25 candies and into Vileplume with 100 candies. Bellossom requires 100 candies and a Sun Stone. Players will have to choose at 100 candies which evolutionary path to take.

Trivia

  1. Oddish is given a scientific name, Oddium Wanderus, in its original Pokedex entry. The only other Pokemon to have one is Kabutops.
  2. Oddish can be considered a parallel to Bellsprout. Both are obviously modeled after plants and are Grass Poison dual types. They’re both Generation 1 and have a three-stage evolutionary line, starting at level 21. A Leaf Stone is needed for both second evolutions.
  3. Oddish is the only Poison-type Pokemon whose body consists of just a head and legs.
  4. Oddish’s alias is Arukimendesu, as shown in the Japanese versions. It has been compared to a corruption of the name Archimedes, the Greek mathematician.

FAQs

Q. When should I evolve Oddish?

It’s not recommended to evolve Oddish before level 46 in Pokemon Red and Blue because Oddish learns Solar Beam at level 46 and Gloom doesn't learn it until level 52. While Oddish evolves at level 21, canceling the evolution until then is a good strategy.

Q. Which is better in Pokemon Go, Vileplume or Bellossom?

Players can choose between evolving to Bellossom or Vileplume once they have a Gloom and 100 candies (and a Sun Stone for Bellossom). Vileplume has 33 more attacks and 279 hp more. Bellossom has 19 more defenses than if it is evolved to Vileplume.

Q. How good is Oddish in Pokemon Go?

Pokemon Go Oddish has a max CP of 1,228, very good for a completely unevolved Pokemon. Its best moveset is Acid and Sludge Bomb. It is vulnerable to just Fire, Flying, Ice and Psychic-type moves.

Q. What are the best counters to Oddish in Pokemon Go?

These are some of the best counters to Oddish that a player can have: Shadow Mewtwo, Mega Charizard Y, Mewtwo, Shadow Moltres, Shadow Alakazam and Shadow Entei. These are very powerful Pokemon in general.

Conclusion

Oddish is a nocturnal Pokemon that resembles and acts like a plant. In fact, its most notable feature is its ability and tendency to plant itself like some kind of sprouting plant during the day. This will allow Oddish to grow and see glossier leaves. Oddish isn’t violent, but if it continues having its leaves pulled while it is trying to sleep, it may reconsider. Oddish has several good evolutionary options.
