Alysa Liu represents the United States on the international stage as a figure skater. When Liu was five years old, her father, a Michelle Kwan enthusiast, took her to the Oakland Ice Center to start skating. Laura Lipetsky, a former figure skater who trained under Frank Carroll, was her first and childhood coach. She started out taking group lessons before swiftly switching to individual sessions. Among the American contestants, Liu placed sixth in the women's singles competition at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

At the 2022 ISU World Figure Skating Championships, she took home a bronze medal, a month later, making history as the first American woman to place on the world podium since 2016. At 16, she announced her retirement from competitive skating after the 2022 season, but she returned to action after her friend encouraged her to take up figure skating again while on a skiing holiday. In her first season back on the ice, Liu placed second at the U.S. Championships. At the Boston-hosted 2025 World Championships, she became the first American figure skater to win the women's singles world title in 19 years.
