Avery Skinner, an All-American volleyball player, is the eldest among six siblings including her sister Madi, who has also made significant strides in volleyball. Their father, Brian Skinner, is a 14-year NBA veteran and former Baylor player.

Avery's collegiate career began at Kentucky where she played from 2017 to 2020 culminating in a National Championship win in 2020. She then graduated in 2021 and continued her volleyball journey as a graduate student at Baylor. She earned her All-American honors at both institutions.

Internationally, Avery has played in France and Italy. She made her senior national team debut at the 2022 Pan Am Cup where she was named Best Spiker and Best Scorer. Her contributions helped secure silver and bronze medals in subsequent tournaments.

In 2024, Avery, alongside her sister Madi, debuted in the Volleyball Nations League. She also participated in key events like the 2023 FIVB Road to Paris Olympic Qualifier and the 2023 NORCECA Continental Championship earning a silver medal.

Brian Skinner, born on May 19, 1976, is an American former professional basketball player who made a notable impact as a forward center. Standing 6'9" and weighing 255 pounds, Skinner began his career at Baylor University. His performance there led to his selection by the Los Angeles Clippers as the 22nd overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft.

The NBA journey of Skinner involves playing for teams like the Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, Phoenix Suns, and Memphis Grizzlies. He also played for the Italian basketball team Benetton Treviso.. Although he was traded to the Chicago Bulls and the Toronto Raptors early in his career, he never played for either team. One of Skinner's career highlights was during the 2004–05 season with the Sacramento Kings following a trade that sent Kings superstar Chris Webber to Philadelphia. Skinner averaged 7.4 points per game on 55.4 percent shooting and grabbed 8.7 rebounds per game along with a career-high 1.7 blocks per game. In early 2006, he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers and then back to Milwaukee in the off-season. He signed a one-year deal with the Phoenix Suns in September 2007.

Skinner came back to the Clippers on July 31, 2008, and stayed in that franchise for the next season. He joined the Bucks for a third time in 2010 but was released in January 2011. He signed with Benetton Treviso in Italy and made the Memphis Grizzlies' roster in 2011 before being waived on December 29, 2011.
