Although he's now a part-timer, several WWE Superstars would like to wrestle John Cena.

The 16-time World Champion has been the face of WWE and the company's top guy for nearly two decades. Over the years, Cena has been in epic feuds with legends like Triple H, The Rock, and Edge. Today, some of his previous rivals dream of having one more encounter against The Leader of the Cenation.

Cena is also a dream opponent for WWE's current generation of superstars. Some of these wrestlers have previously shared the ring with the former WWE Champion. Nonetheless, they want another shot at the 44-year-old. Others, however, are still waiting for their opportunity to go head-to-head with the 16-time World Champion for the first time in their careers.

Here are five WWE Superstars who want to face John Cena.

#5. WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre

Although John Cena and Drew McIntyre have shared the ring a few times in the past few years, they've never squared off one-on-one. Going head-to-head against Cena is something The Scottish Warrior would like to do at WrestleMania 39.

"If we’re going Hollywood, Rock would be the obvious choice [as a dream opponent], but I kind of want to see Rock and Roman, so I’ll take Cena since he’s kind of gone Hollywood. It would be a great story [Cena challenging for his 17th World Championship]. Absolutely, I like it," McIntyre said in a T-Mobile Center video.

In an interview with On Demand Entertainment, McIntyre highlighted that he never had any singles match against Cena despite being around the 16-time World Champion for many years. The Leader of the Cenation was quick to respond to McIntyre's challenge.

"Well, I always appreciate being involved in a conversation of saying that things are important because that means people haven’t forgotten what you’ve put forth as an effort. But, man, what a way to set yourself up for disappointment. In no way, shape, or form is Drew in a position to make matches or make things happen, and I’m not either. Neither of us have that power. That’s beyond our capacity," Cena said in an interview with On Demand Entertainment.

As a result of the 2021 WWE Draft, McIntyre is now moving to SmackDown from RAW. However, he will have one last shot at the WWE Championship when he faces Big E for the title at Crown Jewel.

#4. WWE Superstar Finn Balor

John Cena returned to WWE earlier this year to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship. Nonetheless, The Tribal Chief refused Cena's challenge and accepted Finn Balor's instead.

While Balor was about to sign the contract on SmackDown, Baron Corbin attacked him. Cena then rushed to the ring and took out Corbin before signing the contract himself.

Although Cena lost his championship match against Reigns, Balor hasn't forgotten that the Leader of the Cenation stripped him of his opportunity to face Reigns at SummerSlam. In an interview with The Mirror, the Irish superstar expressed his desire to face Cena at WrestleMania.

"I can’t think of a better place to face John Cena than at WrestleMania. I’ve got a bone to pick with John, the SummerSlam main event was mine, my name was printed on the contract, however, John signed it. There’s certainly an issue that needs to be settled between me and John and, if we can do that at WrestleMania, all the better," Balor said.

Balor and Cena have shared the ring a few times in the past few years. However, they only went one-on-one once in January 2018 on RAW, in which Cena came out victorious.

#3. WWE Superstar Karrion Kross

Karrion Kross is one of WWE's rising stars. He now dreams of going head-to-head with one of the greatest superstars of all time, John Cena.

Kross is a big admirer of the 16-time World Champion. The 36-year-old believes that Cena would be a great opponent for him in the future.

"I think John Cena would be my ideal opponent for the future. Many have already mentioned The Rock or Brock Lesnar as rivals of their dreams, while I wish I had the chance to work with John. Finding myself in the ring with a legend of his caliber, perhaps with the audience in the stands, would be really fantastic. In a way, it is as if two different generations meet. I was very inspired by the athletes of his time," he told BT Sport.

In the same interview, Kross praised Cena for being one of the hardest-working performers in the business. He also disclosed that he would consider facing Cena an honor.

"When the time is right and I have a little more experience in the eyes of the fans, maybe I will be granted such an opportunity," Kross added.

The former NXT Champion recently joined WWE RAW. On the September 27 episode of the Red Brand, he defeated Jaxson Ryker via submission. The 36-year-old is currently on a six-match winning streak on RAW.

#2. WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg

Although they are both WWE legends, Goldberg and John Cena have never squared off one-on-one. The former Universal Champion now dreams of facing the Leader of the Cenation.

"Cena, that's always been a dream. Never been in the ring with him. We're two completely different characters. Hey, you never know. You never know," Goldberg told DAZN.

Cena and Goldberg have shared the ring only once before during the 2004 Royal Rumble Match. The 16-time World Champion entered the match at number 28 while the Hall of Famer entered at number 30. Following Goldberg's entrance, Cena tried to attack him. Nonetheless, the 54-year-old knocked the former WWE Champion down.

Goldberg returned to WWE last July. He challenged Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam but came up short. Following the match, Lashley attacked Goldberg. As Goldberg's son, Gage, tried to stop Lashley from attacking his father, The All-Mighty beat him down.

Goldberg is now seeking revenge against Lashley. The two will square off again at Crown Jewel.

#1. WWE Hall of Famer Edge

Edge and John Cena had one of the most legendary rivalries in WWE history. Now, The Rated R Superstar desires to reignite his feud with The Leader of the Cenation for one more match at WrestleMania.

"The only thing among John and I, we never wrestled a one-on-one at WrestleMania. Which is crazy, right? We worked everything else, but [WrestleMania]. (...) I’m back! The scent is in the air, you never know, could happen one day," he said on the Kurt Angle Show.

Edge and Cena squared off for the last time 11 years ago on the September 27, 2010, episode of RAW. Although Edge first pinned Cena for the win, the anonymous RAW General Manager ordered the match to restart because Cena's foot was under the ropes. The 16-time World Champion would then put Edge into the STFU to earn the victory.

A few months later, Edge announced his retirement due to injury. However, he made his WWE in-ring return last year at the 2020 Royal Rumble. The 47-year-old is currently feuding with Seth Rollins. The two will square off in a Hell in a Cell match at Crown Jewel.
