Pedro Orlando Grifol has become the former manager of the Chicago White Sox in Major League Baseball (MLB). Hailing from Miami, Florida, United States, Grifol was notable for being the Florida High School Baseball Player of the Year in 1988. The year prior, he had also earned a silver medal with Team USA at the 1987 World Junior Baseball Championship. Furthermore, he played college baseball at Florida State University and was chosen by the Minnesota Twins in the 1991 MLB draft. However, his professional career only included being a part of the minor leagues of the Minnesota Twins and the New York Mets.

Pedro Grifol worked for the Seattle Mariners post his playing career before changing gears and becoming a coach. He started out with being the minor league coach of the Kansas City Royals in 2013 and gradually started working with the main team, including being their assistant hitting coach, catching instructor and bench coach till 2022. This duration also led to him winning the MLB World Series with the team in 2015. Notably, he took over the role of the Chicago White Sox in 2023, following the retirement of former manager Tony La Russa. However, he was fired from the position after the 2024 MLB season and he achieved a record of 89-190 throughout his career as a manager with the team.

Pedro Grifol is the son of Pedro Juan and Gloria Campos. However, they got divorced when he was 14 years old as per the MLB official site. However, Grifol has credited both his parents in playing a big role in raising him despite being in a tough situation like a divorce.

Then he would drop his son off at his mother’s place where he would stay from Tuesdays to Thursdays and the routine would continue every week. Unfortunately, Pedro Juan has since then suffered from a lot of health issues. He suffered from a heart attack when he was 42 years old. Moreover, he also suffered from colon cancer, bladder cancer and had to undergo two small intestinal surgeries, especially triple bypass. He also had to undergo heart valve replacement. As a result, he had to be intubated for 55 days. He now lives with Monica, one of Pedro Grifol’s sisters. Pedro Grifol stated that he learned how to be a good father from Pedro Juan. He further revealed that his father is brilliant and one of the smartest men he have met in his life and that he could have been anything he wanted to be.

Talking out his mother (via mlb.com), Pedro Grifol stated that despite being divorced from her husband, Pedro Juan, she understood that her son needed his father and allowed them to spend time with each other. Notably, his mother Gloria Campos attended his debut game as the manager of the Chicago White Sox alongside his wife, daughters and mother-in-law in 2023 as per ouresquina.com.
