
Jack Roosevelt Robinson was a baseball player and played for the Brooklyn Dodgers in the Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1947 to 1956. He also played in the Negro leagues for the Kansas City Monarchs in 1945. He was a six-time All-Star from 1949 to 1954. Apart from this, he was also the MLB Rookie of the Year in 1947 and NL MVP in 1949. He was a two-time leader in the NL for stolen bases in 1947 and 1949. Robinson achieved a batting average of .311 with 137 home runs, 734 RBI, 197 stolen bases, .409 OBP, and .883 OPS. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.
Jackie Robinson made his debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947, at Ebbets Field in front of 26,623 spectators. He wore the number 42 and played first base because Eddie Stanky held second base. Despite being hitless, Robinson scored the winning run in a 5–3 win. He was the first African-American to play in Major League Baseball since 1884. He passed away on October 24, 1972, in Stamford, Connecticut.
