Jackie Robinson is a legendary baseball player and the first African American player to compete in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was chosen as an All-Star player for six consecutive seasons and received the prestigious Rookie of the Year Award in 1947, followed by the NL Most Valuable Player Award in 1949. He helped the Dodgers win the World Series championship in 1955. In recognition of his profound impact on the gam, Major League Baseball retired the No. 42 jersey across all their teams in 1997.

After the 1956 season, Jackie Robinson announced his retirement from Major League Baseball. He batted .275 with 61 runs and 12 steals that year despite the effects of diabetes. Robinson was traded to the New York Giants after he struck out to end Game 7 of the 1956 World Series, but the deal never materialised. His playing career came to an end when he honoured a previous agreement by announcing his retirement exclusively through Look magazine. Robinson passed away on October 24, 1972, at age 53.
