
Hailing from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, Robert Lewis Thomson is in his fourth year as the manager of the Philadelphia Phillies in Major League Baseball (MLB) (as of May 2025). Nicknamed “Topper”, he had also played as a baseball player in the minor leagues for the Detroit Tigers post his high school and college career.
Thomson followed that up as a minor league coach for the Detroit Tigers from 1988-89 and then as third base coach, field co-ordinator, Director of player development, first base coach, temporary manager and bench coach for the New York Yankees from the 1990s till 2017, where he also won the World Series with them (in 2009).
