Hailing from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, Robert Lewis Thomson is in his third year as the manager of the Philadelphia Phillies in Major League Baseball (MLB) (as of 2024). Nicknamed “Topper”, he had also played as a baseball player in the minor leagues for the Detroit Tigers post his high school and college career. Thomson followed that up as a minor league coach for the Detroit Tigers from 1988-89 and then as third base coach, field co-ordinator, Director of player development, first base coach, temporary manager and bench coach for the New York Yankees from the 1990s till 2017, where he also won the World Series with them (in 2009). Moving forward, Thomson started his stint with the Philadelphia Phillies as a bench coach in 2018 and later became the full-time manager of the team in 2022. Remarkably, he helped the team to gain a NL pennant in 2022 and Wild Card berths in both 2022 and 2023.
