Sean Michael Murphy is an American professional baseball player in Major League Baseball. He plays the position of catcher for the Atlanta Braves. Sean Murphy was born on October 4, 1994, in Peekskill, New York, U.S.A. However, he grew up in Ohio. He attended Centerville High School in Centerville, Ohio. Sean played for the Wright State Raiders when he attended Wright State University. He had also played in the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2015 for the Orleans Firebirds for collegiate summer baseball. He was named the Cape Cod Baseball League’s All-Star in that year.
Murphy was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 2016 MLB draft. He was selected in the third round and was the 83rd overall pick. Sean was an All-Star in 2023 and won the Gold Glove award in 2021.
