Born in Venezuela on May 13, 1992, Willson Contreras plays professional baseball as a catcher for the St Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was a player with the Chicago Cubs in Major League Baseball.

Contreras started going to a Major League Baseball baseball academy run by the Chicago Cubs in Venezuela when he was sixteen years old. In 2009, Contreras signed a contract as an international free agent with the Chicago Cubs. At seventeen, he batted .205 in 29 games with the DSL Cubs in his professional debut season. In 2010. Contreras played for the Tennessee Smokies in 2015 after joining the Daytona Cubs in 2014 and the Kane County Cougars in 2013. With eight home runs and a batting average of .333/ .413/ .478 in 2015, he was voted the Cubs Minor League Player of the Year. He kept honing his skills in the minor leagues and became a world series champion with the Cubs in his rookie season and played a crucial role helping them win the series.
