
Luis Castillo is a professional baseball player who plays for the Seattlе Mariners in the MLB. He is a native of Baní, Dominican Republic and made his MLB debut on June 23, 2017, for the Cincinnati Reds. Castillo had first signed with the San Francisco Giants as an international free agent, but was traded to the Miami Marlins for Casey McGehee and then transferred to the Cincinnati Reds for Dan Straily, where he soon established himself as a frontline starter.
He made his first All-Star selection in 2019, recording career bests in 15 wins and 226 strikeouts. Castillo was traded to the Seattle Mariners in July 2022, leading the franchise to the playoffs after 21 years. He signed a contract with the Mariners worth $108 million for five years with an option of a sixth-year extension. He was again named to the All-Star selection in 2022 and 2023. He was ranked fifth in the AL Cy Young Awards in 2023 after recording a 3.34 ERA with 219 strikeouts. Castillo faced a hamstring injury in the 2024 season, yet he was 11–12 and posted a 3.64 ERA and 175 strikeouts.
