Zac Gallen is an American pitcher, who plays for the Arizona Diamondbacks in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born on August 3, 1995, in Somerdale, U.S.
At five years old, Gallen insisted on playing Little League Baseball with the Somerdale team instead of playing tee-ball with his friends. Gallen enrolled at the Tri-state Arsenal Baseball Academy in New Jersey at the age of eleven, playing second base and pitching. Gallen went to the University of North Carolina, where he played collegiate baseball for the North Carolina Tar Heels for three seasons, and Bishop Eustace Preparatory School in Pennsauken Township, New Jersey.
Zac made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast Cardinals, pitching 9+2/3 innings with a 1.86 ERA and 15 strikeouts. He began the 2017 campaign with the Palm Beach Cardinals before moving to the Memphis Redbirds and Springfield Cardinals. Then, the Cardinals traded Zac to the Miami Marlins on December 14, 2017. He attended spring training in 2018 as a non-roster invitee. Midway through the 2019 season, he was traded again to the Diamondbacks. He was selected to start the National League's All-Star Game pitchers in 2023.
Shortstop Jazz Chisholm Jr. was acquired by the Marlins from the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 31, 2019. Zac had 82 strikeouts in 72 innings in 2020. For the week of August 29–September 4, Zac had a 2022 record of 12-4, a 2.54 ERA, with 192 strikeouts in 184 innings pitched. He came in fifth place for the NL Cy Young Award.
