Ineffective Warzone meta weapon nerf doesn't "surprise" players

Call of Duty Warzone recently received a new patch introducing numerically hefty nerfs to the overpowered MTZ Interceptor gun. This marksman rifle could annihilate lobbies with insane accuracy and massive damage output, which made the developers try to balance it. An X user and battle royale player @VadaszTweets commented on a post showcasing the MTZ’s blatant strength and said:

“Are we surprised that they didn’t get it right?”

The changes seem to have done almost nothing to adjust the MTZ Interceptor's power level in Warzone. Players are still taking down enemy operators with three to four crisp shots, and its stability over long-range shots remains blissfully intact, causing a commotion in the community as a percentage of the player base raised concerns about the gun’s balance change.

A short video clip was posted by @ModernWarzone on X, where popular content creator Symfuhny was spotted trying out the MTZ Interceptor in an online match. The player flew over to an elevated section of a rooftop and started firing shots at enemy operators parachuting in the sky. He knocked down two of them with just three bullets each and was shocked at the marksman rifle's strength.

The post gained a lot of attention, and the comments section was flooded with players saying the developers need several tries before properly balancing a weapon. Some comments also cited that the publisher has been following a trend of slowly nerfing meta weapons out of rotation.

A chunk of players pointed out that the enemies were getting their armor cracked with a single shot, which means they were either not fully plated or being shot by someone else. So, the MTZ needing three clean hits seems to be nerfed. Another comment outlined how long-range weapons are supposed to be stronger than assault rifles, so their performance should be expected.

More comments agree with this take and state how the player base might be concerned with a weapon that's simply good while the pool has other broken metas. Others suggest that a playtest phase should be conducted to check if the balance change is working in-game. This can be done with a select player pool to get a better data set and direct feedback.

Another balance change was stated where the devs could lower its fire rate to nerf its ability to take down operators in quick succession. This could be a great fix as it might limit one’s ability to spam bullets and provide enough time for others to evade or find cover.
