Dylan Jacob Sampson is a running back and played the 2024 season as a junior for the Tennessee Volunteers. Sampson hails from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and attended Dutchtown High School. Sampson appeared in 35 games with 14 starts throughout his three-year tenure at Tennessee between 2022 and 2024. Sampson joined in June 2022 and played his initial spring practice during the 2023 season. Throughout his collegiate career, Sampson rushed 422 times for 2,492 yards and had 35 rushing touchdowns. He made 39 receptions for 340 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. His 35 rushing touchdowns were second in Tennessee program history behind only Gene McEver, and he tied James Stewart at second place. He twice earned SEC Academic Honor Roll recognition and actively engaged in community service. Sampson also was a member of the team's leadership council and registered between 22 and 23 miles per hour on Tennessee's Catapult speed-testing system.
Dylan Sampson went to Dutchtown High School in Louisiana, where he rushed for 4,927 yards on 521 attempts and broke Eddie Lacy's high school career rushing record. He also established the school's one-game rushing record with 287 yards and four touchdowns on 23 carries against Ouachita in October of 2021. As a senior team captain in 2021, he registered 1,374 rushing yards and 299 all-purpose yards for a total of 1,673 all-purpose yards with 22 total touchdowns. Sampson was selected as a finalist for the 2021 Warrick Dunn Award and won The Advocate's 2020 Most Outstanding Offensive Player award on the Class 5A-4A All-Metro team. Apart from football, Sampson also ran the 100-meter track in 10.48, the 200-meter in 21.16, and the 40-yard dash time in 4.32 seconds. He had 28 scholarship offers and signed with Tennessee in June of 2021.
