Jay Higgins is an American linebacker who played five seasons of college football with the Iowa Hawkeyes. He embarked on his high school football career at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School, where he was the team captain in both his junior and senior years. The Indianapolis native was rated a three-star prospect and held the school record with 471 career tackles.
Higgins was ranked only 19th out of 21 players who signed for Iowa Hawkeyes in 2020 and held offers from Ball State, Kent State, Air Force, and Miami. In his freshman season, Jay Higgins appeared in only six games but played in all 14 games in his sophomore year. He contributed to special teams but witnessed a breakout campaign in 2022. Higgins recorded 39 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss and was one of the six juniors inducted to the player council. Last season, Higgins started as the middle linebacker in all 14 games while recording a staggering 171 tackles, tied for the most in a single season. At the end of the 2023 season, Higgins returned to the Hawkeyes for a sixth and final season before announcing himself in the 2025 NFL Draft.
