Jay Higgins is an American linebacker who concluded his collegiate career with the Iowa Hawkeyes in 2024. He is from Indianapolis, Indiana, and graduated from the Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School. As a high school player, he played for four years as a starter, earning recognition as a first-team all-state, all-conference, and all-county player. Jay Higgins guided his team to the state championship and the regional championship while notching a record of 471 tackles. Higgins was a highly rated tackler nationally, and he also showed leadership as a captain during his junior and senior years. He had an impactful high school career and was a three-star recruit that landed him with the Iowa Hawkeyes.
During his 2023 season as a senior for the Hawkeyes, Jay Higgins started all 14 games and led his team to a total of 171 tackles, which was a school record for the most in a season. Last season, as a senior, Higgins led the roster with 124 tackles and was named the 2024 Big Ten Linebacker of the Year.
