The University of Alabama's head football coach as of August 2025 is Kalen DeBoer. He has previously coached the Sioux Falls, Washington Huskies, and Fresno State. He won three NAIA Football National Championships at Sioux Falls.

Kalen DeBoer was born and raised in Milbank, South Dakota. He did his schooling at Milbank High School. Following his redshirt year at Western Washington University, DeBoer went on to play wide receiver with the Sioux Falls Cougars from 1993 to 1996.

Kalen DeBoer, the head football coach at the University of Alabama, is expected to make $10.25 million in 2025.

Kalen DeBoer Contract

Kalen DeBoer will earn an average of $10.875 million annually, placing him among the top five highest-paid college football coaches in the country. The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees authorized his eight-year term in March 2024. DeBoer will earn $10 million in the first year of the contract, which will expire on December 31, 2031. In the last year of the contract, his pay will rise to $11.75 million, with an annual increment of $250,000.

Kalen DeBoer Incentives

If Alabama advances to the SEC Championship Game, he would get $75,000; if the Tide wins, he would get $125,000. He would receive $150,000 for a playoff appearance, $250,000 for a quarterfinal appearance, $400,000 for a semifinal appearance, $600,000 for a championship game appearance, and $875,000 for a national championship if they advanced to the College Football Playoffs.

In addition, DeBoer will receive a $25,000 prize if he wins SEC Coach of the Year. He will receive $50,000 should he be named the National Coach of the Year. DeBoer will get a bonus of $50,000 if Alabama's graduation percentage is in the top 50 per cent of all SEC football teams. If the Crimson Tide places in the top four in GSR, that bonus will rise to $100,000.

Kalen DeBoer Payout

The only buyout clause in DeBoer's contract stated that the university would be owed $5 million in 2024, $4 million in 2025, and $3 million in 2026 if he were fired without cause.
