
The Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team hired collegiate football coach Kalen DeBoer in 2024. He began his career at the University of Sioux Falls, his alma mater, where he finished as the runner-up in five seasons and won three NAIA National Championships. At Sioux Falls, he had a 67-3 record as head coach.
Following Sioux Falls, DeBoer worked as an offensive coordinator for Fresno State, Eastern Michigan, and Southern Illinois. In 2021, DeBoer was Fresno State's head coach. The squad won the New Mexico Bowl game in 2021 and concluded the season with a 10-3 record under his leadership.
Kalen DeBoer Coaching History
Kalen DeBoer began his coaching journey in 1997 as the wide receivers coach for Sioux Falls and then worked from 1997-99 for Washington High School as an assistant coach.
Sioux Falls, Southern Illinois, Eastern Michigan
DeBoer returned to his alma mater to serve as offensive coordinator from 2000 to 2004. He was also an assistant baseball coach while he was an assistant football coach. Sioux Falls elevated DeBoer to head coach after Young retired. In his tenure as head coach from 2005 to 2009, DeBoer led his team to a 67-3 record, three NAIA national titles in 2006, 2008, and 2009.
From 2010 to 2013, DeBoer served under Dale Lennon as Southern Illinois' offensive coordinator. From 2014 to 2016, he worked under Chris Creighton at Eastern Michigan University; from 2017 to 2018, he worked under Jeff Tedford at Fresno State; and most recently, in 2019, he worked under Tom Allen at Indiana.
Fresno State (2020-21)
DeBoer was appointed Fresno State's head football coach in 2020. He guided the Bulldogs to a 3–3 record during the season that was cut short by the COVID-19 epidemic. He guided Fresno State to a 9–3 regular season record in 2021. After defeating UTEP 31–24, the Bulldogs advanced to the New Mexico Bowl.
Washington Huskies Football Team (2022-23)
While coaching Washington, Kalen DeBoer won the AFCA Coach of the Year Award in 2023 and two Pac-12 Coach of the Year awards in 2022 and 2023. The team's overall record under his leadership was 25-3.
Alabama (2024-Present)
Nick Saban retired on January 12, 2024, and DeBoer accepted a job offer to take over as head coach of the University of Alabama. His first season as head coach of Alabama began with the Tide in fifth place in the preseason Coaches Poll and AP rankings.
