Tahj Brooks is a running back and played the 2024 season as a super-senior for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. He hails from Manor, Texas and attended Manor High School. He rushed for more than 4,400 yards and scored 65 touchdowns in his career. He committed to play collegiate football at Texas Tech University. He received offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Boston College, California, Colorado, Duke, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri, SMU, TCU, Utah, and Vanderbilt, and ultimately chose Texas Tech. In 2020, Tahj Brooks rushed for 255 yards on 69 carries and four touchdowns as a true freshman at Texas Tech. As a sophomore in 2021, he led the team with 568 yards on 87 carries and seven touchdowns, starting four of nine games. During the 2022 season in played in 13 games and started in six, registering 691 yards on 147 carries and seven touchdowns, securing his position as the team's top rusher once more. Brooks made a comeback as the starting quarterback in 2023. During the first half of the 2023 season, Brooks became the first running back from Texas Tech to reach 100 yards in four straight games, one of the first in the 21st century. Against TCU, Brooks recorded his sixth 100-yard rush of the season, making him the first Texas Tech running back since DeAndré Washington in 2015 to surpass 1,000 yards in a single season. Brooks was selected as a 2023 Doak Walker Award semifinalist.
