A resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, he is notable for being a longtime teammate of fellow Navy Midshipmen player, Alex Tecza. Eli Heidenreich completed his schooling at Mt. Lebanon High School, where he served as the captain of the football team as a senior. Moreover, he also earned Post-Gazette 6A Player of the Year honors the same year.

Eli Heidenreich began his collegiate football career with the Navy Midshipmen team after his high school football career ended.
