SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) had a season to forget in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, contrasting sharply with their previous outing. After finishing as runners-up last year, SRH ended up sixth in the points table this time, missing out on the playoffs.

The 2026 season will present several challenges for the 2016 champions, as they need to make strategic changes to their squad. Although their batting unit didn’t perform consistently, it appears well-prepared for the upcoming season, given that SRH has some quality hitters in their lineup.

Their bowling department raised many eyebrows as the players couldn’t meet expectations. They invested heavily to bring in Mohammed Shami, but the veteran pacer failed to justify his price tag, and the franchise may consider letting him go or trading him before the IPL 2026.

That said, let's discuss three players SRH should think about trading for before the next season:

#3 Nuwan Thushara

Sri Lankan bowler Nuwan Thushara, in his second IPL season, represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after playing for the Mumbai Indians (MI) last year. He appeared in seven games for MI last season but only got one chance to play for the eventual champions in the 16 matches they played.

With Josh Hazlewood as their frontline pacer leading the team’s bowling unit, Thushara is unlikely to see much game time with RCB, making him a candidate for a trade. SRH could add the Lankan bowler to their setup to maximize his abilities.

#2 Mayank Markande

Indian cricketer Mayank Markande was acquired by the 2024 champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the IPL 2025 mega auction for INR 30 lakh. However, the 27-year-old didn’t get the opportunity to play in a single game.

That increases the likelihood of him being traded by KKR, which could prompt SRH to consider him to strengthen their bowling unit. Markande was part of the Hyderabad-based franchise in IPL 2023 and 2024, where he played 17 games and took 20 wickets.

#1 Tushar Deshpande

Mumbai cricketer Tushar Deshpande was released by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) before the IPL 2025 mega auctions and was picked up by the tournament’s inaugural champions, the Rajasthan Royals (RR).

He played for the Royals in 10 of their 14 games, taking just nine wickets—his lowest tally in the past three years—with an economy rate exceeding 10. With the seamer struggling to make an impact in the pink outfit, he might be traded before the next season.

Although he didn’t impress with the ball this year, SRH could view him as a frontline seamer to enhance their unit, considering his previous successes with CSK from IPL 2022 to 2024.
