IPL 2016: Highest/Most Run-Scorers, Leading Wicket-Takers after KKR vs SRH & DD vs RCB

Virat Kohli leads Royal Challengers Bangalore into the playoffs

Super Sunday – we had two games of 22 May 2016. It marked the final day of the league stages making the matches even more interesting. Kolkata Knight Riders played Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first game. Sunrisers Hyderabad qualified for the playoffs but needed a win to push for the top-two. This would allow SRH to have two chances at the cup. It was a do-or-die game for Kolkata Knight Riders. A win would seal the playoff spot for KKR.

In the second game, Delhi Daredevils played Royal Challengers Bangalore. This was the most crucial game for both the teams. A win in this game guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. Both the teams had to bring the A-game to this vital fixture.

Match one – Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and chose to field first.

Kolkata Knight Riders Playing XI:

Robin Uthappa, Gautam Gambhir, Manish Pandey, Colin Munro, Yusuf Pathan, Shakib Al Hasan, Suryakumar Yadav, Jason Holder, Sunil Narine, Kuldeep Yadav, Rajpoot.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Playing XI:

Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, Moises Henriques, Yuvraj Singh, Kane Williamson, Deepak Hooda, Naman Ojha, Karan Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Barinder Sran, Mustafizur Rahman.

Kane Williamson replaced Eoin Morgan for SRH. No Andre Russell and Piyush Chawla for KKR.

Kolkata Knight Riders was off to a shaky start. KKR lost four wickets in the first eight overs. Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan came in next and steadied KKR’s ship. Both of these players played brilliantly. Manish Pandey scored 48 runs in 30 balls. While Yusuf Pathan scored an unbeaten fifty to propel KKR’s score to 171.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Hooda picked up two wickets each.

Chasing 171, Sunrisers Hyderabad lost David Warner early. Shikhar Dhawan played brilliantly and scored a half-century. None other than him could stay long. Yuvraj Singh had a decent start but fell to Shakib Al Hasan. SRH lost wickets often and managed to score only 149 runs. Kolkata Knight Riders is through to the playoffs.

Sunil Narine had a great game. He took three wickets including the crucial wicket of David Warner. Kuldeep Yadav had a good game as well. He picked up two wickets.

Match two – Delhi Daredevils vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and elected to field first.

Delhi Daredevils Playing XI:

Quinton de Kock (WK), Rishabh Pant, Karun Nair, Sanju Samson, Sam Billings, Carlos Brathwaite, Chris Morris, Pawan Negi, Amit Mishra, Jayant Yadav, Zaheer Khan (C).

Royal Challengers Bangalore Playing XI:

Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli (C), AB de Villiers, Lokesh Rahul (WK), Shane Watson, Sachin Baby, Stuart Binny, Chris Jordan, Sreenath Aravind, Iqbal Abdulla, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Chris Morris was back in the side for Delhi Daredevils.

Quinton de Kock played a beautiful knock. He scored a well-timed fifty. Other than de Kock, no other player held the innings together. In the end, Chirrs Morris’s cameo ensured that Delhi Daredevils put 138 runs on the board.

Chahal had an excellent game. He took three wickets including the vital wicket of Quinton de Kock. Chis Gayle picked up two wickets as well.

138 runs were always insufficient to defend against Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB lost Chris Gayle and de Villiers early. Virat Kohli continued his terrific form and scored yet another half-century.

It was an ordinary performance from Delhi’s bowlers. Royal Challengers Bangalore beats Delhi Daredevils to claim the final playoff spot.

Virat Kohli holds the orange cap. David Warner holds the second spot. Gautam Gambhir is at number six. Quinton de Kock moves number nine.

We have seen some spectacular fielding in the league stage of IPL 2016. Watson-Wiese relay catch is the best catch of IPL 9. AB de Villiers has the most catches in the tournament so far. Naman Ojha has the most dismissals as a wicketkeeper.
