IPL 2018: Twitter reacts to Gautam Gambhir stepping down as Delhi Daredevils captain

After winning just one match off the six games, Gautam Gambhir stepped down as the Delhi Daredevils captain and Shreyas Iyer has been named skipper in his place. Gambhir blamed his poor form with the bat for the decision to quit as captain. Here is the message from Gautam Gambhir taking full responsibility for DD's failures:

True, that I’ve stepped down from DD captaincy. Just to clarify it was my call, nothing from the management or coaching staff. I may not be leading from the front but I will be the last man standing for @DelhiDaredevils. No individual bigger than d team. Very much a #DilDIlli

He scored only 85 runs in the five innings that he played for Delhi Daredevils. Gambhir joined his home team after winning two titles with the Kolkata Knight Riders in a span of seven years. He is also the fourth highest run-getter in IPL history scoring 4217 runs in 152 innings.

Gautam Gambhir steps down as @DelhiDaredevils captain. Shreyas Iyer will be the captain for the rest of the season. DD head coach Ricky Ponting too had stepped down as Mumbai Indians captain in 2013 and Rohit Sharma was made the captain. Rohit went on to win 3 IPL titles!

Gautam Gambhir, as I have said before, was one of the best captains I have ever seen operate in T20 cricket and that includes both league T20s and International T20s. Had got all the qualities you want in a leader. Tactic, attitude, you name it. He had it.

Why did Gautam Gambhir step down as captain? His captaincy was not even an issue? He is struggling with the bat and that can't be because of captaincy, especially for someone who has led IPL team from last 6 seasons and did a decent job with both, batting and leadership. #IPL
