After winning just one match off the six games, Gautam Gambhir stepped down as the Delhi Daredevils captain and Shreyas Iyer has been named skipper in his place. Gambhir blamed his poor form with the bat for the decision to quit as captain. Here is the message from Gautam Gambhir taking full responsibility for DD's failures:True, that I’ve stepped down from DD captaincy. Just to clarify it was my call, nothing from the management or coaching staff. I may not be leading from the front but I will be the last man standing for @DelhiDaredevils. No individual bigger than d team. Very much a #DilDIlli— Gautam Gambhir (@GautamGambhir) April 25, 2018He scored only 85 runs in the five innings that he played for Delhi Daredevils. Gambhir joined his home team after winning two titles with the Kolkata Knight Riders in a span of seven years. He is also the fourth highest run-getter in IPL history scoring 4217 runs in 152 innings. Here is how Twitter reacted to change of captaincy:Gautam Gambhir has taken the fall for his team’s poor show...some of the #DD tactical decisions were questionable but it felt, from the outside, that they weren’t his decisions alone. #IPL— Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) April 25, 2018Gautam Gambhir steps down as @DelhiDaredevils captain. Shreyas Iyer will be the captain for the rest of the season. DD head coach Ricky Ponting too had stepped down as Mumbai Indians captain in 2013 and Rohit Sharma was made the captain. Rohit went on to win 3 IPL titles!— Sarang Bhalerao (@bhaleraosarang) April 25, 2018Gautam Gambhir scored just 1 run in the first 4 matches of IPL 2014. KKR too didn't do well. From such a position, he lead KKR to winning the title.GG isn't someone who quits in the middle of a tournament. He was forced to do so— Abhishek Puri (@91abhi91) April 25, 2018Gautam Gambhir's stepping down as captain reminds me of one of the last scenes of Sholay, where Jai, dying, looks at Radha & softly says to Veeru, 'Yeh Kahani Bhi Adhoori Reh Gayi'— Joy Bhattacharjya (@joybhattacharj) April 25, 2018Gautam Gambhir, as I have said before, was one of the best captains I have ever seen operate in T20 cricket and that includes both league T20s and International T20s. Had got all the qualities you want in a leader. Tactic, attitude, you name it. He had it.— Abhishek (@Sajjanlaunda) April 25, 20186 matches were enough to understand how pathetic the Team Management is. Well done Gautam Gambhir— Abhishek 🇮🇳 #408 #KKR 💜 (@ImAbhishek7_) April 25, 2018Gautam Gambhir has won two IPLs as captain and still he gives up his captaincy because of a bad season.. meanwhile, Virat Kohli has been leading RCB For last seven years and they are yet to win the IPL 😂— Anubhav. (@EyeAnubhav) April 25, 2018I am not a die Hard Gautam Gambhir fan. But whenever i see this man in Trouble it really hurts. He deserves Better. Didn't understand the logic behind this. But I am totally disagree with Gautam Gambhir's step.#GautamGambhir #delhidaredevils pic.twitter.com/0VIYtPKnFm— •Sudhanshu #ESCN (@beingsudhanshu_) April 25, 2018Why did Gautam Gambhir step down as captain? His captaincy was not even an issue? He is struggling with the bat and that can't be because of captaincy, especially for someone who has led IPL team from last 6 seasons and did a decent job with both, batting and leadership. #IPL— Silly Point (@FarziCricketer) April 25, 2018Imagine Rohit Sharma being asked to step down or voluntary willing to step down as Captain for his poor show so far! Sounds horrendous doesn't it? This is exactly how this move move by Gautam Gambhir/DD sounds to me!🤦‍♂️— Devvrat Unadkat (@DevvratUnadkat) April 25, 2018Wise step..Gautam Gambhir is always a team man. we cannot forget the innumerable knocks he has played towards the winning cause. He is the most selfless player I have seen after Rahul Dravid.— Rahul Singh (@Itz_RahulSingh) April 25, 2018First Steve Smith. Then Wenger. Now Gautam Gambhir. Enough of heartbreaks this year already.— Kamblian Aakash (@PUNchayatii) April 25, 2018
