Foreign players are an integral component of any IPL squad. The rules of the Indian Premier League allow the franchises to pick a maximum of eight foreign players in their squad and play a maximum of four in the playing XI at a time.

Hence, the strategy of the franchises while picking foreign players is forming a core of four and picking backups for each of them. While selecting the foreign players, franchises look for the unique traits that they would not ordinarily find in the Indian players. As a result, most of the foreign players are big-hitting batsmen, potent fast bowlers with the ability to bowl good yorkers, or all-rounders.

In this article, we take a look at the best foreign player of each IPL team in 2019.

Delhi Capitals - Trent Boult

Trent Boult has been New Zealand's best bowler in all formats of the game for quite some time now. He was picked up by the Delhi Capitals in 2018 and was a partnership-breaker for them last season.

Boult has extraordinary ability to adapt to the various needs of the game. He can swing the new ball quite a bit as well as bowl impeccable yorkers at the death. The Delhi Capitals are blessed to have a bowler like Boult who they can use in every situation.

Trent Boult has picked up 33 wickets from 29 IPL games at an average of 29 with the ball. He is undoubtedly Delhi's best foreign signing based on current form.

Kings XI Punjab - David Miller

There is a debate over who is the better foreign player in the KXIP team between Chris Gayle and David Miller. Although Gayle has done his fair share of destruction in the past few seasons of the IPL, there is no doubt that David Miller is the most valuable overseas player for the Kings XI Punjab for the last five seasons.

On his day, he can clear any boundary at his will. He came up with a statement, 'When it's in the arc, it's out of the park'a few years ago in the IPL which became famous among the commentators and the same aptly describes his style of play.

The southpaw has scored 1637 runs from 69 IPL games at a strike rate of 140. Miller is the backbone of the KXIP middle order and will look to continue his good work of several years in 2019 as well.

Royal Challengers Bangalore - AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers has been RCB's best overseas batsman for quite a few years now. After joining the franchise in 2011, de Villiers has played quite a few match-winning knocks for the men in red and snatched victories from the jaws of defeat.

He has teamed up brilliantly with Virat Kohli to help the RCB post totals of 200 on the board on many occasions. De Villiers' monumental IPL record reads 3953 runs from 141 matches at a strike rate of 151.

This year too, he will be a player to watch out for. De Villiers would hope he can help his team put an end to their title drought and look forward to putting up some spectacular performances.

Rajasthan Royals - Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler is a modern-day T20 legend. What separates Jos Buttler from others is his ability to score at a strike of 120 even on his bad days at the crease. He has got a wide range of shots and is very pleasing to watch. Buttler has 1075 IPL runs from 37 games scoring at 150 runs per hundred balls.

At the Rajasthan Royals, he has been a force to contain with at the top because of the quickfire starts that he has provided. Rajasthan have quite a few good foreign players like Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, and Jofra Archer. But amongst the lot, Buttler has edge over the others, given his recent heroics.

Andre Russell is the best all-rounder in the IPL at the moment. He is one of the most sought after players in the franchise cricket across the world and makes a big impact for every team that he represents.

The Kolkata Knight Riders signed Andre Russell in 2014 and he has helped them seize big moments in several matches. Russell is one of those rare players who is equally good in both departments and it is difficult to label him a batting all-rounder or a bowling all-rounder.

Russell's IPL strike rate of 177 speaks for itself. He also has 44 wickets to go along with that. The big Jamaican will look to make a huge impact for the KKR in the IPL 2019 being their best overseas signing.

Sunrisers Hyderabad - Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan has emerged to be the best bowler in T20 cricket in a span of just two years. He has the ability to deceive the batsmen with the various tricks he has got up his sleeve. The Sunrisers Hyderabad found the perfect bowler in him to deliver the goods in their home conditions. Rashid Khan has 38 IPL wickets from 31 games at an economy of 6.69.

On a slow pitch, it is almost impossible to Rashid to cleaners because of his mystery. The batsmen take a lot of time to figure out which way the ball is going to turn which makes him invincible in this format right now.

Although Sunrisers have David Warner and Kane Williamson to compete for the spot of the best overseas player, Rashid is miles ahead of them at the moment.

The Chennai Super Kings have quite a few overseas superstars in their line-up with the likes of Dwayne Bravo, Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, and Imran Tahir. However, it can be safely said that Watson is CSK's best overseas player in terms of experience and quality.

Watson, who is currently 37 years of age, has wide experience of playing the IPL for several years. He is a very devastating batsman and can chip in with more than useful overs as well. Last season, he was a juggernaut for the Chennai Super Kings and his all-round performances helped them win the title.

Watson's 117-match IPL career has seen 3177 runs at a strike rate of 141 and also has 92 wickets against his name. He scored a match-winning 117 in the final against the SRH when the CSK got their hands on the glittering trophy.

Mumbai Indians - Kieron Pollard

Mumbai Indians have a power-packed foreign roster and it is a difficult task to pick the best among that lot. However, looking at the history, it is certain that Kieron Pollard can be termed as Mumbai's best overseas player.

Although Pollard had a lackluster 2018 season, his heroics in the past for the Mumbai Indians have been too good to ignore him. Pollard has always stood and delivered whenever the Mumbai Indians have needed him. He will look to put his bad 2018 season behind and come out all guns blazing.

A monumental IPL record of 2476 runs at a strike rate of 146 and 56 wickets clearly prove that he has been Mumbai's man for all seasons.
