The Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur witnessed a clinical display of dominance by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) as they thumped Mumbai Indians (MI) by a massive nine-wicket margin in the 38th match of IPL 2024 on Monday, April 22. This win cemented their position at the top of the points table.

Despite winning the toss and electing to bat, Mumbai were never allowed to settle. Openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan were dismissed cheaply by Trent Boult and Sandeep Sharma, respectively.

Nehal Wadhera and Tilak Varma then revitalised MI's innings, stitching up a 99-run partnership for the fifth wicket. However, Sandeep Sharma's spectacular death bowling display not only restricted MI to 179 but also saw him deliver the best bowling figures (5/18) in IPL 2024 thus far.

In reply, RR chased down the target comfortably with nine wickets to spare. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the hero for the Royals, scoring a brilliant unbeaten century (104 runs off 60 balls). Jos Buttler (35) provided him with good support at the start before being dismissed. The unbeaten partnership between Jaiswal and Sanju Samson (38*) ensured a smooth chase for Rajasthan, who won the game with eight balls to spare.

On that note, here are three landmarks that were reached in the recently concluded RR vs. MI fixture.

#3 Trent Boult now has the most wickets in first over of IPL matches

There are not many better operators of the new ball than Trent Boult around world cricket. The Kiwi speedster has taken nine wickets in IPL 2024 thus far, six of which have come inside the powerplay overs.

Incredibly, he is even more threatening in the opening over of a game. In the previous match between these two teams, Boult sent back Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir. On Monday, he once again took the prized wicket of Rohit in his first over. With this, Bould became the bowler with the most wickets in the first overs of IPL matches.

The left-arm pacer has surpassed Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the list. Bhuvneshwar has taken 25 wickets, while Boult now has 26.

#2 Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes the youngest player to score multiple IPL centuries

Yashasvi Jaiswal silenced his critics with a phenomenal century against MI in Jaipur. Needing to find form, Jaiswal smashed a blistering 104 runs off just 60 balls.

This knock, his second IPL century, not only propelled Rajasthan to a comfortable win but also made him the youngest player ever to smash multiple IPL hundreds. Aged 22 years and 117 days, Jaiswal surpassed previous record holders who had achieved the feat at a slightly older age.

Incredibly, both of Jaiswal's hundreds in IPL have come against MI.

#1 Yuzvendra Chahal becomes the first player to take 200 IPL wickets

Yuzvendra Chahal's bowling figures against MI might not have been eye-catching (1/48), but his solitary wicket held immense significance. He dismissed Mohammad Nabi, etching his name in IPL history books as the first bowler to reach the incredible milestone of 200 wickets in the tournament.

The current highest wicket-taker in IPL history, Chahal has played 153 matches and has bagged 200 wickets at an immaculate average of 21.60. He has taken a wicket in every 16.76 balls across his stellar career.
