Punjab Kings (PBKS) co-owner and veteran Bollywood actress Preity Zinta penned an emotional note following the franchise’s heartbreaking loss to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2025 final on Tuesday, June 3. She took to Instagram on Friday, June 6, to share a few words.
Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, PBKS had a remarkable season, finishing at the top of the points table with 19 points from 14 matches. Although they lost Qualifier 1 to RCB, they bounced back by defeating five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator, setting up a highly anticipated rematch against the Royal Challengers in the final.
However, things didn’t go in their favor in the summit clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, as they fell short by six runs while chasing a target of 191. Although their dream of winning the maiden title slipped away, Preity Zinta shared a heartfelt message for the team, writing:
“It didn’t end the way we wanted it to but….the journey was spectacular ! It was exciting, entertaining & it was inspiring. I loved the fight & the grit our young team, our shers showed throughout the tournament. I loved the way our captain, our Sarpanch lead from the front & how Indian uncapped players dominated this IPL!”
“This year was unique. We smashed records even though we lost key players to injury & national duty, witnessed a pause in the tournament, transferred home games to other states & evacuated a stadium ! We adapted & topped the points table after a decade & fought till the end in an exciting final,” she added.
The 50-year-old also assured fans that the team will come back stronger in pursuit of the title, while praising their unwavering support through all the highs and lows.
“I am so proud of each n every player of Punjab Kings for showing so much character throughout the tournament. A big thank you to each of them and to our support staff and everyone at PBKS for an incredible season," she wrote.
"Most of all a HEARTFELT THANK YOU to our - SHER SQUAD - our FANS that stood with us through thick n thin. Whatever we are & how far we have reached is all because of you. I promise we will come back to finish the job cuz as of now the job is still half done. See you next year in the stadium , till then take care n stay safe everyone. Love you all," Preity concluded.
This was the Punjab Kings’ second appearance in an IPL final, their first being in 2014 under George Bailey’s captaincy. On that occasion, they were defeated by Gautam Gambhir’s Kolkata Knight Riders.
PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer led the team from the front with his performances
Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer impressed with both his leadership and batting, guiding the franchise to only their second-ever IPL final. Iyer was the standout performer with the bat for the Kings in the 2025 season, finishing as the team’s highest run-scorer.
The 30-year-old amassed 604 runs in 17 innings, averaging 50.33 at a blistering strike rate of 175.07. He recorded six half-centuries, with his most explosive innings being an unbeaten 97 off just 42 balls against the Gujarat Titans.
