Delhi Capitals (DC) completely outplayed the Gujarat Titans (GT) to record a sensational six-wicket win in Match 32 of IPL 2024. With this, they have jumped to sixth position on the IPL points table. Meanwhile, GT have slipped to the seventh spot on the leaderboard.
After being put to bat first, Gujarat put up a horrific batting performance. DC pacers wreaked havoc early on as GT's powerplay score read 30/4. DC spinners then didn't let GT's middle-order form any partnerships as they kept inflicting blows on regular junctures.
Part-time off-spinner Tristan Stubbs took two wickets in his only over. Rashid Khan showed some fight as he top-scored with 31. However, it couldn't prevent GT from being bundled out for 89. Mukesh Kumar was the pick of the bowlers as the right-arm pacer took 3/18.
Delhi began their chase of 90 runs in blazing fashion as they smoked 67 runs in the first six overs. While Jake Fraser-McGurk pummelled 20 runs off 10 balls, Rishabh Pant's unbeaten knock of 16 led to a comprehensive win with 67 balls to spare.
With this win, DC have leapfrogged three franchises. They have jumped from ninth spot to sixth on the points table. The Rishabh Pant-led side have now won three of their seven games and have a Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.074.
Gujarat, meanwhile, succumbed to their fourth loss of the season and have six points after seven fixtures. They currently occupy seventh place with NRR of -1.303. Their run rate has taken a massive hit following their humbling defeat to DC.
PBKS and MI will look to build some momentum on Thursday
Match 33 of IPL 2024 will see Punjab Kings (PBKS) take on the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh on Thursday, April 18.
Both Punjab and Mumbai have been in poor form. Both teams have won just two of their first six games and are in a desperate need of a win.
PBKS are eighth on the points table with four points at a NRR of -0.218. MI, likewise, also have four points and an NRR of -0.234.
A win for either PBKS or MI will give them a huge boost, after which they could start a much-needed winning run in the tournament.
