In the year 2011, the then-national team player was in search of a physiotherapist to aid him with his fitness when he was back home in Baroda. It was at that moment that he came across a certain physiotherapist who was practicing in Baroda. She happened to be the future Yusuf Pathan’s wife, Afreen. There is not much to add to that story, as it was love at first sight for the right-handed batsman. Later it was revealed that the two were neighbours in Baroda at some point in time. Needless to say, it was destiny that brought the two close.
After a year of a pretty low-key affair, the two decided to get engaged at a private ceremony held at the cricketer’s family farmhouse on the outskirts of Baroda, in March 2012. It was a very private event, where only close members of each family were invited, and it is said that the whole event lasted about a few hours.
Cut to March 2013, both families came together again in Mumbai, only this time to bless the couple in holy matrimony. Their marriage was a conventional nikah ceremony, which included nearly all the family members from both sides. The ceremony was later followed by a lavish reception held at the lawns of the spectacular Laxmi Vilas Palace in Baroda a few days later.
