What happens in the Callisto Protocol?
That legend has us acting as Jacob Lee, imprisoned in the Black Iron cell on Callisto, one of Jupiter's moons. Outside his cell, however, things are out of control as a mystery sickness or epidemic ravages the convicts and the prison officials. You'll eventually break out with one primary goal: endure whatever awful things are going on and get off Callisto if possible.
It's also an atmospheric horror game set in space with extraterrestrial foes that have twisted and altered human bodies into body-horror monstrosities. It also has death animations for when you screw up, which might leave you scarred for life.
What does the gameplay feel like?
The Callisto Protocol has the vibes of classic survival horror. Players are constantly looking after their inventory, collecting possibly valuable items, and weighing up every bit of ammo and health as they deal with a fragile life-and death-situation. The slow progression and intense action build up tension in the player.
It does have its moments, with some nice spooky touches and a few surprises here and there, but it's very much in the LOUD NOISES wheelhouse of scary gaming overall.
