The newly merged entity will go into the league with favourites. The Mariners have inherited the ATKFC squad which won the ISL 2019-20 title. Antonio Lopez Habas’s side has the unique advantage of retaining the core of their title-winning roster with the quality additions of Sandesh Jhingan and Bradden Inman. The attacking duo of David Williams and Roy Krishna are expected to light up their campaign with lots of goals. The Mariners boast of a composed and attacking midfield studded by Michael Soosairaj, Edu Garcia and Javier Hernandez. Local boys Prabir Das and Subhasish Bose will provide the attacking aspect to the defensive duo of Sandesh Jhingan. ATK Mohun Bagan FC look all set to win their maiden ISL title.

Bengaluru FC were one of the most defensive sides in the 2019-20 Indian Super League. The Blues finished third despite an All India Attacking Line Up. The likes of Erik Paartulu, Dimas Delgado, and Juanan put up an extra shift throughout the season to cover up the lack of quality upfront. The Blues have bought in players like Cleiton Silva, and Kristian Opseth to complement the likes of Sunil Chhetri and Udanta Singh upfront. The 2018-19 ISL Champions look like a solid balanced unit but lack the X-Factor to make it to the top-four. Their early pre-season may prove vital in a season like no other.

Despite a late surge in the 2019-20 season and a runner-up finish, Chennaiyin FC did not retain erstwhile Head Coach Owen Coyle. The Mariners Machans have bought in Hungarian-Romanian manager Csaba Laszlo. The 2015 and 2017-18 ISL Champions have gone for experienced campaigners in East Europe and Asia. Enes Sipovic, Jakub Sylvestr, Fatkhullo Fatkhuloev and Esmael Goncalves will add firepower to their balanced Indian squad comprising of Lallianzuala Chhante, Anirudh Thapa, Thoi Singh and Edwin Vanspaul.
