Tottenham Hotspur Vs AFC Bournemouth

Tottenham Hotspur face AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, with the opportunity to reclaim their place in the Premier League's top four. Spurs play a day before Manchester United’s visit to Nottingham Forest, allowing them to increase the pressure on United for a Champions League spot. The Cherries, on the other hand, are still fighting relegation and are three points clear of the bottom three, though they want to get even further away.

Tottenham Hotspur Vs AFC Bournemouth fixtures

With Cristian Stellini now at the helm for the remainder of the season, Tottenham are looking to challenge for a top four spot and they seem to be doing shockingly well so far. The North Londoners are unbeaten in Stellini’s spell so far with a draw against Everton and a win, albeit thanks to dodgy refereeing, against Brighton and Hove Albion. They face Bournemouth next although that shouldn’t be as much of a concern as the fact that they face Newcastle United, Manchester United and Liverpool following their clash against the Cherries.

All three sides are also in the race for European football which means that at least two wins in those three games could essentially give Tottenham a massive boost in their battle for a top four place. It doesn’t mean they should take Bournemouth lightly though as the Cherries are fighting for their very survival in the Premier League. They sit 15th in the Premier League after their latest win over Leicester City but even then the Cherries sit only three points off the drop zone.

To make things slightly worse, they are about to face fellow survival fighters West Ham United, Southampton, Leeds United, Everton and Crystal Palace with all five teams hoping to survive. With the exception of Crystal Palace (six points off the bottom) and Southampton (20th place with 23 points), the other four (including Bournemouth) are only three points off the drop zone. It does make things rather dramatic for a neutral but not so much for fans of the Cherries.

While Erling Haaland is breaking records and is on course to win his first Premier League golden boot, Harry Kane is having a very impressive season. The forward has 23 league goals and in a normal season would be lauded for the fact that he could potentially hit the 30 goal mark. That is despite the fact that his teammates and Tottenham, in general, have struggled to hit their gear.

Beyond Kane, no Tottenham player has even hit double figures in the league for goals although after Son Heung-Min’s stunning strike against Brighton, fans hope that the South Korean has re-discovered his spark for hitting the net. The forward has done relatively well off late with three goal contributions in his last four games but Spurs will need more from their superstar especially with their battle for the top four heating up.

The other two, Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski, haven’t had great seasons either, with two goals being scored by the latter. The former, signed in the summer from Everton, hasn’t hit the net once this season but there’s a chance all might be forgiven should the Brazilian step up and hit the net a few times over the next eight odd games.

AFC Bournemouth players

Philip Billing, brought in as a more all-around midfielder, has turned himself into a goal-scoring threat for the Cherries over the last few years and few believed it would translate into the league. The Dane netted 10 in the Championship last season and has nearly hit double figures this term, with seven goals which also makes him the Cherries’ top scorer. And with eight games left, Bournemouth will need Billing to be at his best although he isn’t the only one they’ll need.

Dominic Solanke has struggled to find the net often this season but has netted four times this term, as have Keiffer Moore and Marcus Tavernier, but the Cherries need more from him.

Tottenham Hotspur Vs AFC Bournemouth head to head

Tottenham and Bournemouth have only played 14 games against each other since 1957. Nonetheless, Spurs dominate with 8 victories, while the Cherries have only won twice, once in 1957 and once in 2019. So much so that in the last five encounters with Spurs at home, they've won five times, with a goal difference of 16-2 in their advantage.
