The PGA Championship is one of the four major golf tournaments that are held annually, along with the Masters, U.S. Open, and Open Championship. The PGA of America organizes it, which is acknowledged by the European and Japan Golf Tours too. Apart from the World Wars, the tournament has been a consistent annual event since its inception in 1916.

It was first held in the match-play format, which changed to stroke play in 1958. Jack Nickaus and Walter Hagen are two players with the most wins; however, the difference is that Niklaus won during stroke-play format and Hagen during match-play.

Who won the PGA Championship in 2024?

Xander Schauffele secured his first major victory at the 2024 PGA Championship with a final score of 263, under-21. He defeated Bryson DeChambeau by a single stroke. He had previously placed runner-up at the Masters and the Open Championship, and in 2019, he finished tied for third at the U.S. Open.

Schauffele was tied with DeChambeau for the lead going into the last hole. He needed to make a birdie on the 18th hole to evade the playoffs, which he did and set a record low for a major championship. Viktor Hovland finished for solo third, while Thomas Detry and Collin Morikawa finished tied for fourth place.

Who won the PGA Championship in 2023?

Brooks Koepka won the 2023 PGA Championship. He achieved three consecutive birdies at the beginning of the final round; however, he faced a tough challenge from Viktor Hovland, who narrowed the gap in the middle of the round. Nevertheless, Koepka managed to regain his lead by birdieing the 16th hole, while Hovland got stuck with a double bogey.

Ultimately, Koepka won with a two-shot victory over Scottie Scheffler, while Hovland closed with a birdie on the final hole, also finished tied for second place. After this victory, Koepka becomes the 20th player in golf history to win at least five major championships.
