Viktor Hovland's Caddie

Viktor Hovland, a Norwegian professional golfer, began playing golf at the age of 11 and won his first amateur title at the 2013 Norgescup 7 when he was 16. Between 2013 and 2019, he claimed nine amateur championships and was the low amateur at both the 2019 Masters and Open Championship.

Hovland attended Oklahoma State University from 2016 to 2019 and turned professional later in 2019. He joined the PGA Tour in 2020 and earned his first win at the Puerto Rico Open. As of April 2025, he holds 11 professional victories, including the 2023 Tour Championship and the 2025 Valspar Championship, and is ranked No. 8 in the Official World Golf Rankings after reaching a career-high No. 3 in January 2022.

Viktor Hovland’s caddie is Shay Knight as of April 2025.

Knight has been a caddie for nearly two decades and has caddied for Chez Reavie, Sean O’Hair, Martin Laird, DJ Trahan, Jerry Kelly, Matt Jones, and Aron Price over the years. Knight said about Hovland:

“He has the ability to take one side of the golf course out of play, which is huge.”

He praised Hovland's ability to drive the ball straight and his calm demeanor. According to Knight, Hovland is a calm individual who, even when frustrated, quickly lets it go.

Joe Skovron, who then caddied for Rickie Fowler, helped the two finally develop an arrangement after they met Knight at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. As soon as Hovland decided to turn pro, Joe Skovron asked if Knight would be interested in being a caddie for Hovland. Knight said yes without hesitation. Their first official week came at the 2019 Travelers Championship, where he tied for 54th.

According to Knight, the first week was an assessment for both of them. He thought that the first week was vital for determining mental compatibility. They wanted to build a strong rapport during Travelers Week because it was crucial, in Knight's opinion (via Golf Monthly).
