While most gamers are waiting for GTA 6, developer Build a Rocket Boy released MindsEye on June 10, 2025. The main reason the latter garnered attention is that it was Leslie Benzies’ first project after leaving Rockstar Games in 2016. As a result, many began to compare MindsEye with various Grand Theft Auto games. Since the release of GTA 6 is still some time away, players can try out MindsEye in the meantime.
However, do note that the game is buggy and has many gameplay issues. This article lists three reasons why you should play MindsEye before the upcoming game and two reasons to avoid it.
Note: Some parts of this article are subjective and reflect the writer’s opinions.
3 reasons to play MindsEye before GTA 6
1) Includes a decent storyline

MindsEye is an action-packed, futuristic game with a decent storyline. Unlike GTA 6, which has two protagonists, there is only one playable character named Jacob Diaz, who fights robot uprisings. This single-player game can be completed in eight hours if you play nonstop.
However, since there's plenty of time before the GTA 6 release, you can play it at your own pace.
2) Available on multiple platforms
While Rockstar Games will release Grand Theft Auto 6 only on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S initially, MindsEye was made available on the following stores and platforms from day one:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- Steam
- Epic Games Store
Thus, if you are a PC gamer, then you should try MindsEye while waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6.
3) No cops, full chaos
MindsEye has no cops or wanted level system. You can go on a rampage by killing NPCs without having to face the police. Shooting or running over them with vehicles will have no consequences.
The Grand Theft Auto series does not give you such freedom (without cheats). Also, the cops in GTA 6 are expected to be even more advanced. Thus, you should play this game if you're looking to wreak havoc.
2 solid reasons why GTA 6 fans should stay away from MindsEye
1) The gameplay is buggy
One of the biggest issues with MindsEye is its buggy gameplay. Even GTA 6 fans have called it out for the unstable experience it offers. The NPC reactions are weird, physics is broken, and the game crashes at times.
Fortunately, Build a Rocket Boy has already started fixing the title. However, player reviews remain negative at the time of writing this article. Therefore, think twice before spending $60 on the game.
2) It is not an open-world game

While GTA 6 is expected to have one of the biggest open worlds to date, you cannot freely explore the map in MindsEye. The only time you can roam the map is during missions or while going to mission objectives.
Thus, if you're looking for a new open-world game similar to those from GTA, you should avoid MindsEye.
