Some Grand Theft Auto fans have speculated that GTA 6 could be the next Fortnite. The latter is an online multiplayer game with an ever-evolving gameplay, battle passes, and other features that keep it running endlessly. While the upcoming installment from Rockstar Games is considered the most ambitious project to date, it does not seem to have Fortnite-style gameplay, nor should it.
There are various reasons why a Fortnite-style gameplay could change the Grand Theft Auto franchise. This article explains more.

A Fortnite-style gameplay in GTA 6 can spoil the Grand Theft Auto franchise
While Fortnite-style gameplay may sound like an exciting feature for GTA 6, it could potentially ruin not only the upcoming game but the entire franchise as well.
Firstly, the Grand Theft Auto series has its unique, established identity that fans have loved for ages. Shifting to Fortnite-style gameplay in GTA 6 will discredit the legacy established by the released games so far and will be somewhat insulting to long-term fans.
Until the release of GTA Online, the series was known for making goated single-player titles. However, Fortnite is an online game that is far from what the Grand Theft Auto series is known for. Moreover, adapting to this style will require a crossplay option in GTA 6, which is the last thing we expect Rockstar Games to offer.
While Rockstar has offered multiplayer services for ages, GTA Online is the first game that kicked off this feature and became popular. Still, considering its longevity, we can see that fans have begun to get bored with it despite the studio releasing free new DLCs every six months. If Rockstar ditches story mode and prioritizes live services again, it could become an annoying feature in GTA 6.
Therefore, following Fortnite's path is a risky thing for GTA 6, something the developer should avoid. Instead, Rockstar Games should release story mode DLCs for the upcoming title and keep the multiplayer version separate and grounded in reality.
