The 2024 NFL trade deadline is looming, and there is already significant speculation about which players are changing teams.
More importantly, the wide receiver market has seen major upheavals. Davante Adams, Amari Cooper, DeAndre Hopkins, and Diontae Johnson have found new homes. Some teams, like the Pittsburgh Steelers, are also pondering their options.
Those options include players with the highest chance of wearing a new jersey by Nov. 10.
#5. Darius Slayton
By this point, Darius Slayton should be considered a veteran leader for the New York Giants. He may not be the most prolific receiver around, but he has been a stabilizing presence for a largely anonymous corps.
But with the likes of Wan'Dale Robinson and especially Malik Nabers coming into their own, now may be the time for Joe Schoen to part ways with him.
#4. Tee Higgins
Tee Higgins did not want to be franchise-tagged in the offseason. After all, he had been the Cincinnati Bengals' WR2 in their Super Bowl run and the subsequent period.
But since then, he has faced serious competition from sophomore Andrei Iosivas, while tight end Mike Gesicki may be coming into his own as the slot man after a season-best 100 yards and two touchdowns against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Teams desperate for a proven WR2 will surely covet his services, especially the Steelers, who still badly need to replace Diontae Johnson.
#3. Adam Thielen
Adam Thielen's 2023 release from the Minnesota Vikings was one of the sadder departures in recent franchise history, as the local-born player had risen from UDFA to (briefly) one of the best wideouts in the league. The Carolina Panthers seemingly gave him a career resurrection, as he posted his first thousand-yarder in a while despite being on a historically bad team.
But halfway through the 2024 season, the franchise has changed. First-overall pick Bryce Young has been benched. Diontae Johnson, who had been traded for in this offseason, is now a Baltimore Raven.
The Panthers may lean toward youngsters Jonathan Mingo and Xavier Legette in the future, and Thielen may be the next victim of this churn.
#2. Elijah Moore
Coming off their second playoff appearance of the decade (and just their third since reactivation), the Cleveland Browns entered the 2024 season with massive expectations. Deshaun Watson was returning from a shoulder injury, and his already monstrous receiving corps of Amari Cooper, Elijah Moore and David Njoku had received another piece in Jerry Jeudy, who then got an extension.
But instead of continued success, there has instead been unmitigated failure. Watson played poorly before tearing his Achilles, while Cooper was shipped off to Orchard Park a few kilometers in the northeast as the Browns sank to their current 2-7 record.
Thus, do not be surprised if Moore is the next to go, as this complete demolition job continues.
#1. Mike Williams
Who else was going to lead this list?
Mike Williams has been in the New York Jets' proverbial doghouse lately. There was his slip on what would have been a first-down catch against the Buffalo Bills, which allowed Taron Johnson to intercept the pass. And then the front office traded for Aaron Rodgers' old Green Bay cohort, Davante Adams.
The former Charger's days in Gang Green are numbered, and he will be somewhere else by next week.
