Should teams be looking at Florida QB Anthony Richardson as the first-overall pick?

The 2023 NFL Draft is fast approaching, and a quarterback will likely be taken first overall. That is provided the Chicago Bears move out of the first slot, as they’re likely to continue to persevere with Justin Fields.

Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud are the likely candidates for the top pick. However, Anthony Richardson has made a strong case for himself.

Why should Anthony Richardson be picked first overall in the 2023 NFL Draft?

#1 - Athleticism

In terms of athleticism, there’s no QB that comes close to Richardson in the 2023 NFL Draft.

During the recent NFL Combine, his athleticism scores were some of the highest we’ve seen in recent times.

He even set a Combine record for QBs with a 40.5” vertical jump.

In fact, Richardson wasn’t only the most athletic quarterback at the Combine, but the most athletic player.

#2 - Speed

In today's NFL, the majority of the best quarterbacks are able to move the ball downfield with both their arms and legs.

This won’t be a problem for Richardson, who ran a fantastic 4.44 40-yard dash at the Combine.

He also had 103 rushing attempts and nine touchdowns during his final year with Florida, so he knows how to utilize his legs when he needs to.

#3 - Arm

Many NFL fans and analysts see Richardson in the same mold as Lamar Jackson--- a great athlete but lacking accuracy and arm talent.

However, Richardson put some of those doubts to bed at the Combine, as he effortlessly threw the ball 50+ yards downfield at Indianapolis.

Young or Stroud may still go first overall, but with Anthony Richardson putting on such a show at the NFL Combine, some GMs around the league will be taking note.
