The 2024 NFL season is just around the corner, with teams across the league preparing for the new campaign. For sophomores (players entering their second season), some will be coming into the new season with high hopes and expecting to top their excellent rookie campaigns. The likes of Bijan Robinson, C.J. Stroud, and Sam LaPorta all had fantastic rookie campaigns and are hoping for more of the same during their sophomore campaign. However, some rookies from 2023 didn't have the type of season they'd have been hoping for and will be looking to bounce back in 2024.NFL sophomores who will bounce back in 2024#5 - Tyree Wilson, Las Vegas RaidersNFL: Denver Broncos at Las Vegas RaidersThe Las Vegas Raiders wanted to pair Maxx Crosby with Texas Tech DE Tyree Wilson, but Wilson's rookie season didn't go to plan. After being drafted 7th overall by the Raiders, Wilson ended his rookie year with a poor 47.1 PFF grade, logging just four sacks and one forced fumble. However, Wilson played just 44% of the Las Vegas' defensive snaps in 2023 - and saw more playing time after Antonio Pierce replaced Josh McDaniels as head coach. With Pierce being given the role permanently, expect Wilson to see the field more and shine during his sophomore campaign.Sportskeeda's algorithm gives the Las Vegas Raiders just 7% chance of making the playoffs in 2024.#4 - Quentin Johnston, Los Angeles ChargersNFL: Los Angeles Chargers MinicampLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston received plenty of criticism during his rookie campaign, after dropping more than one crucial pass from QB Justin Herbert. Johnston was drafted ahead of both Zay Flowers and Jordan Addison - both of whom had excellent seasons. However, despite the criticism from fans and analysts alike, Johnston has the opportunity to prove the doubters wrong in 2024. Both Keenan Allen and Mike Williams have left the team, and the Chargers passed on Malik Nabers to draft Joe Alt - only taking a wideout in Ladd McConkey in round two.Johnston could be a prime target for Herbert in 2024, who also let pass-catching RB Austin Ekeler leave during the offseason.Sportskeeda's algorithm gives the Chargers 17% chance of making it to the 2024 playoffs.#3 - Christian Gonzalez, New England PatriotsNFL: New England Patriots MinicampCB Christian Gonzalez was a rare shining light for the New England Patriots during 2023, despite only playing in four games due to season-ending torn labrum and dislocated shoulder injuries.Gonzalez won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for September and recorded his only interception against the Miami Dolphins in Week 2.Gonzalez is part of a new era for the Patriots, with former New England linebacker Jerod Mayo replacing legendary coach Bill Belichick as HC. Expect Mayo to have a plan to utilize Gonzalez, much like Belichick before him.Sportskeeda's algorithm gives the New England Patriots just a 1% chance of making the playoffs in 2024 in what will be a tricky AFC East.#2 - Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis ColtsSyndication: The Indianapolis StarMuch like Gonzalez, QB Anthony Richardson had his promising rookie year cut short due to injury. And like Gonzalez, he only managed to play in four games. Richardson had three passing and four rushing scores - displaying his elite dual-threat potential straight away. However, after having season-ending shoulder surgery Gardner Minshew stepped up and led the Colts to a respectable 9-8 record. With an upgrade at QB, as well as the Colts having weapons like Jonathan Taylor, Michael Pittman, Josh Downs, and rookie Adonai Mitchell, Richardson has all the tools to have a fantastic bounce back in 2024.Sportskeeda's algorithm gives the Indianapolis Colts a 30% chance of making the playoffs in a competitive AFC South.#1 - Bryce Young, Carolina PanthersNFL: Carolina Panthers OTAThe 2023 NFL Draft's 1st overall pick will have been disappointed with how his rookie campaign went. Young led the Panthers to just two wins, passing for only 11 touchdowns against 10 interceptions.Young's Panthers squad was bereft of talent so the blame can't be placed entirely on the former Alabama QB. Now heading into his sophomore campaign Young will be surrounded by much better weapons. Carolina upgraded their WR room by picking up Diontae Johnson and drafting Xavier Legette, and beefed up their RB depth by drafting Jonathan Brooks. The Panthers have also vastly improved their offensive line to protect Young, picking up Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis - making them the 2nd and 13th highest-paid guards in the NFL respectively.Sportskeeda's algorithm puts the Panthers' playoff chances at just 1%, something Young will be looking to prove wrong.
