With the NFL free agency period almost upon us, we are seeing a lot of player movement during the league's legal tampering period. What follows is usually a flurry of activity with players signing contracts with their new teams.

Also during this time, franchises can often overpay to get a player in the door. Whether that be due to the player's demands or the team simply wants to get them on their roster, big money is usually exchanged.

Five of the worst NFL free agency contracts we could find

# 5 - Michael Johnson - Tampa Bay Buccaneers

In 2014, Johnson signed a 5-year, $43.75 million contract with $16 million guaranteed as he swapped the Cincinnati Bengals for Tampa Bay.

However, the grass isn't always greener, and he was released one season into the deal as he totaled four sacks for the Buccaneers.

# 4 - Mike Glennon - Chicago Bears

Glennon has bounced around the league for what feels like forever, but he was thought to be "the guy" in Chicago. He signed a 3-year, $45 million contract with $18.5 million guaranteed in 2017 to be the teams starter.

It didn't go too well, however, and he was released a year into the contract as he started four times and threw five interceptions and four touchdowns during that time.

# 3 - Nick Foles - Jacksonville Jaguars

When it comes to NFL free agency swings and misses, this one is up there. In 2019, Foles got the bag. He signed a 4-year, $88 million contract that had $45.125 million guaranteed.

That's as good as it got. He started only four times (all losses) and in 2020, he was traded to Chicago for a miserable fourth-round pick.

# 2 - Brock Osweiler - Houston Texans

A backup to Peyton Manning in Denver, Brock got paid in a move to the Houston Texans. A 4-year, $72 million deal with $37 million guaranteed was signed in 2016 as he was thought to be the player to change life in Houston.

Well, he didn't, and he was traded a year after his deal. He started 14 times for the Texans for a host of draft picks in a huge swing and miss for the AFC franchise.

#1 - DeMarco Murray - Philadelphia Eagles

As far as NFL free agency regrets go, the Eagles will still have nightmares over this one. Grabbing Murray from NFC East rivals the Dallas Cowboys, the Eagles thought they were getting the All-Pro Murray who dominated the NFL for Dallas.

They didn't get that player at all. Murray signed a 5-year, $40 million contract with $18 million guaranteed and was traded to the Tennessee Titans after one season. This is the worst NFL free agency contract we can imagine.
