Aaron Rodgers reportedly cuts short darkness retreat, checks out three days in

Dallas Cowboys v Green Bay Packers
Aaron Rodgers left his darkness retreat

Aaron Rodgers was supposed to spend four days and four nights in complete darkness, silence and isolation. He was doing this in an effort to clear his mind and find his path forward. He was likely going to emerge with a decision on whether or not he wants to retire.

However, three days into his retreat, he's already emerged. He hasn't stated a decision, but he has reportedly emerged from the facility (which was a 300 square foot room with no light whatsoever).

His options were to retire, remain in Green Bay or seek a trade, all of which have seemed like the most likely option at one point or another, as ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio pointed out:

"The 39-year-old Rodgers will make $60 million this season if he remains with the Packers under his current contract. The Jets are reportedly interested in trading for him, and there has been some talk that the Packers are ready to move on from him. Rodgers has also indicated that he might decide to walk away."

Rodgers has options and each choice he could make would make sense. He's old, older than the average NFL player gets to be. The Packers aren't exactly a true contender, and they don't appear to be on the verge of it, either.

There are teams that are just a quarterback away, though, which would benefit tremendously from inserting Rodgers into that position. A darkness retreat probably helped him decide, but it certainly didn't make the decision any easier.

Odds for Aaron Rodgers' next move

Per Draft Kings, these are the odds for where Aaron Rodgers will be next:

  • Las Vegas Raiders -200 66.7%
  • New York Jets +150 40%
  • Green Bay Packers +250 28.6%

Oddsmakers clearly don't really buy retirement as a legitimate option, but Rodgers has been erratic in decision-making before.

Per them, it looks as if the Las Vegas Raiders might find their next quarterback after moving on from Derek Carr.
