The Baker Mayfield saga that began in the offseason with the Cleveland Browns may have finally paid dividends for the former No. 1 overall pick as he's settled down with the Los Angeles Rams.

After asking for a trade out of Cleveland following the Deshaun Watson trade, he was traded to the Carolina Panthers on July 6, 2022, for a 2024 conditional fifth-round draft pick.

Mayfield was named the starter for the Panthers heading into the regular season, but had a bad stint with the Panthers. He went 1-5 as the starting quarterback, throwing for six touchdowns and six picks while having a passer rating of 74.4.

Mayfield suffered a high-anke sprain in Week 5 but returned a few weeks later and served as the backup. Shortly after, he requested a release from the team and on Dec. 5, 2022, the Panthers released him.

The very next day, the Los Angeles Rams claimed him off of waivers. The team is dealing with multiple injuries at quarterback, including Matthew Stafford, who may be shut down for the rest of the season.

Baker showed out in his Rams debut after being added to the roster just two days prior. While John Wolford started the game for the Rams, they chose to bench him and put Baker in, and he rallied the Rams back to victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

In the victory, Mayfield completed 22 out of 35 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown. He threw a game-winning touchdown pass to Van Jefferson with 10 seconds left in the game to give the Rams the lead and the win.

He had a solid first three seasons in the league. He threw for 3,500+ yards, and 22+ touchdowns in each of his first three seasons. He led the Browns to the playoffs in 2020 with a 11-5 record and picked up a road victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In his career, he has a 30-35 record while completing 61.2% of passes, 15,668 yards, 99 touchdowns, 62 interceptions, and a passer rating of 86.6.

After an impressive debut with the Rams two days after joining the team, he'll get the opportunity to start and prove himself once again and could be the next franchise quarterback as Stafford's injury status looms and he gets older.
