The Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are set to battle it out on Monday Night Football in Week 9. This will be the sixth time quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Patrick Mahomes will face each other in their collegiate and NFL careers.

In two college games against Mahomes and the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Mayfield and the Oklahoma Sooners came out on top as the winning quarterback. The two quarterbacks totaled 1,279 combined passing yards in their second college game against each other, which took place in 2016, with Mahomes setting an NCAA record with 734.

However, in the NFL, Mahomes has won each of his three meetings with Mayfield, so the situation is reversed.

We'll examine the two signal-callers' performances during their time playing collegiate football below.

Patrick Mahomes was already setting records at Texas Tech, where he played from 2014 to 2016, before he entered the NFL.

Mahomes guided the Red Raiders to a 13–19 record in the games he started. The team had a 7-5 regular season in 2015, which was his best season in college.

Mahomes threw for 1,547 yards, 16 touchdowns, and four interceptions in seven games during his freshman campaign. In his sophomore year, he built on that accomplishment with 364 completed passes for 4,653 yards, 36 TDs, and 15 INTs.

Patrick Mahomes led all collegiate Division I quarterbacks in a number of categories during his junior year, including total touchdowns with 53, yards per game at 421, and passing yards with 5,052. The Chiefs selected him with the 10th overall selection in the 2017 NFL draft after he chose to forgo his final year of college eligibility.

In January 2014, Baker Mayfield transferred to the University of Oklahoma after starting his collegiate football career with the Texas Tech Red Raiders. From 2014 to 2017, he played for Oklahoma, where he earned the Heisman Trophy.

Mayfield finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting after concluding the 2015 season with 3,700 passing yards, 36 TDs, and seven INTs. Additionally, he helped guide the Sooners to the 2015 Orange Bowl, which was a semi-final game in the playoffs, where the team was defeated by Clemson, 37-17.

Mayfield completed 254 passes for 3,965 passing yards, 40 passing touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 13 games during the 2016 season. In addition, he had five running touchdowns and 311 rushing yards. He finished third in the Heisman voting that year.

Baker Mayfield finished his last collegiate football season with 285 completed passes for 4,627 passing yards and 43 passing touchdowns, earning him the 2017 Heisman Trophy. On the ground, he also added five touchdowns and 311 yards.

The then-22-year-old QB was selected as the first overall draft pick in 2018 by the Cleveland Browns.

Although Mayfield's collegiate career was undoubtedly superior to Mahomes', their careers have taken different turns since joining the NFL. Mayfield has only made it to the playoffs two times in a span of seven seasons, while Mahomes has gone on to become one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, winning three Super Bowls.
