Brandin Cooks contract: How much will Cowboys WR earn in 2023?

Brandin Cooks is off to the Dallas Cowboys. After the Houston Texans opted to keep him at last year's deadline (the Cowboys reportedly went after him then, too), the trade went down off-season.

As part of the trade, the two teams have already worked out who will pay what for Cooks' salary. The Cowboys got themselves a great player to compliment CeeDee Lamb, and they won't have salary cap issues either.

Adam Schefter detailed the new contract details in a tweet:

"Wide receiver Brandin Cooks restructured his contract Saturday so that Houston will pay $6 million of his salary this season and the Cowboys now will pay the remaining $12 million, per source."

Cooks, who is owed $18 million for the upcoming season, will get the full amount. However, it will come from two teams. The Texans will eat $6 million of it, so the Cowboys essentially get Cooks for $12 million in the 2023 NFL season.

Next season, Cooks' final under contract, will cost the Cowboys another $13 million. Dak Prescott, the Cowboys quarterback finally has another reliable receiver on his offense, and he will hope to utilize him effectively.

The Dallas Cowboys have been in the market for a second wide receiver since they released Amari Cooper last off-season. Behind CeeDee Lamb, the options were slim.

They were in on Cooks last year as well as Odell Beckham Jr. They're still interested in Beckham, but they now have Cooks on the roster.

They sent this year's fifth-round pick to the Texans as well as next year's sixth-round pick. They have now successfully traded for Stephon Gilmore and Brandin Cooks for a total of two fifth-round picks in this draft and a sixth in 2024.

The Cowboys came up short of their ultimate goal last year, falling to the San Francisco 49ers. They're already perennial contenders, but they are truly going after it this off-season.
