Cleveland Browns Free Agent Signings 2023: Has Cleveland done enough in free agency market?

During the NFL free agency period, the Cleveland Browns effectively jettisoned their squad of any members they no longer required while keeping hold of two crucial players.

The Browns have made a handful of defensive free agent additions after finishing 20th in points allowed last term. They also had difficulties blocking the run in 2022.

Three new starting players, Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, Juan Thornhill, and Dalvin Tomlinson, have the potential to make a big difference in the defensive system. Last week, the Browns agreed a four-year, $57 million deal with DT Dalvin Tomlinson. Many analysts have credited the team with an A+ for that decision.

Jordan Akins was also added, giving them more depth at tight end. Akins previously played with quarterback Deshaun Watson for the Houston Texans.

Top five Cleveland Browns deals in 2023 Free Agency

#1 Dalvin Tomlinson

Despite missing four games last season, Dalvin Tomlinson recorded 2.5 sacks, 42 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He will be responsible for managing the inside of the Browns' backline.

Apart from Myles Garrett, no other Browns player had more than three sacks last campaign. In 2023, Tomlinson should make more of an impact for Cleveland while also relieving some of Garrett's strains.

The Cleveland Browns are aiming to extract whatever fine play Tomlinson still has left in him, as the 29-year-old is now seemingly in the twilight of his career

#2 Juan Thornhill

Also added to the Cleveland Browns' roster was safety Juan Thornhill, who in four years in the NFL, has featured on two Super Bowl-winning teams with the Kansas City Chiefs. He was likely brought in to start alongside Grant Delpit.

#3 Ogbonnia Okoronkwo

Cleveland signed DE Ogbonnia Okoronkwo to a three-year deal to take over for the departing Jadeveon Clowney and provide some assistance to Myles Garrett up front.

Another athlete with a Super Bowl medal is Okoronkwo, who was a member of the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 when they won the championship.

#4 Ethan Pocic

Ethan Pocic will be re-signed by the Cleveland Browns to a three-year agreement. Pocic ranked among the league's best centers last year.

In 2023, Pocic will be back to lead the middle of what may be the strongest offensive unit in the league with Wyatt Teller and Joel Bitonio. Last campaign, Pocic's pass block win percentage was fifth in the league among players in his position, while his run block success rate was fourth.

#5 Matt Adams

He's acquainted with Bubba Ventrone, the special teams coach for Cleveland, who also came from Indianapolis.
