Following Monday's walkthrough, quarterback Cooper Rush appeared on the Dallas Cowboys' injury report because of a knee ailment. Rush was designated as a limited participant in practice on Monday and continued to be so on Tuesday's practice report due to minor knee soreness.
Even though Dallas has a short week, Rush told the media on Tuesday that he intends to play against the New York Giants in Week 13.
Earlier this week, coach Mike McCarthy commented on Rush's condition, saying:
"He's got some work to do. But I think he'll be fine.”
Given that Rush didn't depart last Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders at any point because of an injury, there shouldn't be any serious concerns about his health before Thursday's game. The signal-caller should be able to start against the Giants, as it appears his addition to the injury report this week is more for maintenance and rest purposes.
Cooper Rush led the Cowboys to a thrilling 34–26 victory over the Commanders despite his struggles since taking over as the team's quarterback in the wake of Dak Prescott's season-ending hamstring injury. That victory was the first Dallas has had since October 6. The team will try to win two straight games for just the second time this season on Thursday.
The 31-year-old quarterback has three touchdown passes and one interception in his first three starts for Dallas this season, leading the team to a 1-2 record in that time. In order to avoid carrying an injury designation into the Thursday afternoon kickoff versus New York, he will probably need to log a full practice participation on Wednesday.
Cooper Rush injury update: What happened to the Cowboys QB?
Cooper Rush completed an impressive 75% of his throws in the Dallas Cowboys' 34-26 victory over the Washington Commanders in Week 12, throwing two touchdowns and racking up zero interceptions.
However, he left the game with a knee injury, and in Monday's practice—which was just a walkthrough—he was limited.
Since it's unclear when Rush sustained the injury in Week 12, it might have been something bothering him for a while. Since replacing Dak Prescott as the Cowboys' quarterback, the former undrafted free agent has taken multiple hits, so it's possible that the knee problem developed as the hits mounted.
Rush and his teammates kept Dallas' tiny hopes of making the playoffs alive on Sunday by helping them snap a five-game losing streak. He must continue to play at that level in the hopes that it will help the club win in order to qualify for the playoffs.
Cooper Rush and the Cowboys will try to pull off another spectacular victory against the New York Giants on Thanksgiving Day.
